As rooms have different interior designs, similarly sofas too come in various styles. The job of a home decorator is to find the right piece that fits in the particular room. The look of the sofa is complete even without any additional if its type complements the design of the room. Various types are sectional, divan, Lawson, loveseat, etc. and can put up to echo the setting of the place.
The sofa itself shouldn’t be the center of attention in the living room. So don’t try to make it stand out more than it has to by choosing a very bold color. Also, trendy patterns are not a great option either. Pattern and color should come from the throw pillows or other accent elements.
The size of the sofa has to be chosen in conformity with the size of the room. In other words, if you have a tiny living room you can’t get a huge sofa because it will completely take over the space. If the room is large, then a small sofa will simply look ridiculous. If you want the room to feel larger, get a sofa with open space underneath.
Anytime you’re arranging furniture you have to think about balance. When too many visually heavy things are on one side of the room the entire space looks unbalanced. Since sofas tend to be large in scale they take up quite a bit of visual space, and they require something of equal weight across from them to balance out the room. This is why you often see two chairs placed directly across from a sofa. Together the chairs balance out the weight of the sofa.
