The act of coloring is likened to meditation or mindfulness in that it gives people something else to focus their attention on. When the brain is focused on a simple activity that takes us outside of ourselves and with a predictable outcome, it’s able to relax.
Grip/Control – many children learn how to hold a pencil, pen, marker, or colored pencil, by first learning how to hold a crayon. The small muscles needed for penmanship later begin to be developed while coloring.
The ability to complete a task successfully builds self esteem and confidence in young children. Coloring regularly and completing projects boosts a child’s sense of accomplishment and pride in themselves.
